Sculpture Exhibition in The Meadow

“The Fence Is A Perch”

Artist Statement:
This work explores the tension between exclusion and inevitability—between human boundaries and nature’s quiet persistence. Designed to echo the angled spikes of hostile architecture and the repetitive rhythm of a fence, these forms recall barriers meant to keep people out, to prevent rest, to claim control.

But nature does not recognize “private property.” Birds will perch. Seeds will root. The elements will settle. What deters humans becomes a platform for life. The fence becomes a perch.

This piece invites reflection on who we build for, what we try to keep out, and how—despite it all—life reclaims space with grace and indifference.
